Starting a New Life Abroad

September Ceria….September Ceria

I always think of September as a funny month.

It’s the month that marks the beginning of the new academic term. Meaning, new
students are arriving, and I’ll have to say goodbye to most of my mates who’ve
only stayed in my location for exactly a year to complete their post grad
course.

Saying goodbye sucks.
But one has to do it every once in a while.

My post-post grad return date has expired for two years minus two weeks now.

[ September is indeed funny, and life is a massive stage for comedy acts.
]

In the past week, approximately 5 friends of mine in randomly different occassions,
told me that their favourite song at the moment is Wake Me Up When September
Ends.

How peculiar (!).

I bet you don’t believe me if I say that just now, a few seconds ago, I
received a text message from another mate exclaiming a similar
sentiment over the same song.
I’m just thankful that everybody around me knows or has heard of September
Ceria.

I’ve checked and checked my personal note and it’s been confirmed that there’ll
be no site visit to go to this month. Instead, I’ll have workshops and meetings
to catch. That’s just natural, of course, considering September is when my work
contract is usually renewed.

A new project now begins.
A new batch of annual leave is available for me to take.
A salary raise has been arranged.

[ September has the potential to be... ]

September is when the Americans reminiscing 2001.

My already-low frequency of telly watching decreases even more.
I don’t fancy sitting my arse throughout repetitive programmes on terrorism or
wasting my breath bitching about how desperate those TV stations in trying to
make the viewers agree with their most recent conspiracy theories.

[ September has multiple faces. ]

What else is there about September?

When you live in England,
September is the month when you start thinking about Christmas. Not just
thinking as giving it a mere thought or two, but thinking as planning, making a
list, panicking, and spending, spending, spending. Promotions, discounts,
special packages and what have you are everywhere, constantly giving you a
reminder (and pressure) that the end-of-year holiday is coming near.

But when you live in Jakarta……hmmm nothing
interesting topic to share

As for me, I’m going to spend September to scheme my next trip.
I know where I wanna go, and now it’s a matter of when and what kind of deal I
can get.

Have I ever fallen in love in September?

Hmm…
My first answer would be maybe.

Yeah.
I think I have.

I’m not that fond of September, but I don’t dismiss it completely either.
Like I said, it’s a funny month.

I shall laugh.

Ready?

Ha! Ha! Ha!

Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred moments so dear
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights, in sunsets
In midnight cups of coffee
In inches, in miles
In laughter and strife

Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure a year in the life?

[ The original
soundtrack
of Rent - a brilliant musical film everybody has just got
to see ].
