The bitches and beaches part was an innocent mistake, I think. Poor Girl..She’s so pretty, even prettier than that Brazilian chick ^0^
This girl was meant to represent our country, both beauty and brains.
Why they focused too much on her beauty, I will never understand. I
thought we had over 200 million people to choose from and yest we chose
one pretty girl who elaborate more on her German bloodline than focus
on her Indonesian heritage.
——————————————————-
You don’t get to see much of American TV when you live in Indonesia.
Unless you’ve got cable, of course, which I haven’t. So my mind has
been kept pure and free from Hollywood TV shows, apart from some odd
reality TV programmes that Channel 4 or Five can’t resist to air sometimes.
Yesterday afternoon, I got an email for from a friend with a message written in the subject box:
[ "Dear Lord. Somebody. Anybody. Please make this girl keep her mouth shut!" ]
In
the message body, there was an active link. Where the link would take
me to was as clear as the blue skies have got these days, it’s
got something to do with Miss Universe 2006.
Innocently, I clicked on the URL, without any preparation whatsoever to have my jaw dropped down for the next 7 minutes or so.
After I recovered from the temporary states of dumbfounded, flabbergasted, gobsmacked, but not, even remotely, amused… I think I’ve got something or two to say about this absurdity.
1.
As if it wasn’t a big enough misconception that Bali is a part of
Indonesia and NOT the other way around, that girl had succeeded in
diminishing the country even more: Indonesia is now a city, ladies and gentlemen.
2. Indonesia has got beautiful bitches. So do come and visit because the bitches will welcome you.
3. I think my 14 year old cousin speaks better English than Nadine does, and yet Nadine was the one who got sent to the event.
4. Yes, my admire is Mother Theresa. Oh yes, Mother!
Yet, I pity the girl, to be honest.
What
she had said in that clip will haunt her as long as she lives, unless
she’’s planning to have a complete plastic surgery make-over and/or
relocate to North Pole and/or change of identity and/or something.
This leads me to gather one conclusion:
WHOEVER HAD MADE THE DECISIONS TO SEND HER TO THE EVENT WAS A BUNCH OF MORONS!!!
Do you realise what you lot have done to this poor, pretty girl’s future???
Oh, I’m so sure there are other beautiful and potential Indonesian beaches you could pick to represent the country?!? (Yes, pun was intended!)
Tsk.
Shame on you!!!
………
So yeah, anyway…
You guys have seen The Producers? If you haven’t, you should.
Somehow this whole Miss Universe chaos reminds me of some scenes of the movie.
Scene 1
Max: Maybe Ulla can help tidy up the place.
Ulla: Taidiyuup? What a funny word.
Max: Yes, tidy up.
Ulla: What does it mean? Taidiyuup?
Max: It means to clean. Yes. Taidiyuup.
Scene 2
Leo: So what time can you get here?
Ulla: Well,
Ulla wake up every morning at five AM. From five to seven, Ulla
exercise. From seven to eight, Ulla take long shower. From eight to
nine, Ulla eat big Swedish breakfast. Many different herrings. From
nine to eleven, Ulla practice her singing und her dancing. And at eleven, Ulla like to have sex. So, what time should Ulla get here?
Leo & Max: Eleven!!!
Ulla: Good! Ulla will come at eleven!
[ Ulla speaks English with a very thick Swedish accent.
She's pretty, she's tall, she dances, she sings.
And she's blonde.
Well, yeah, she's Uma Thurman. ]
………
Yes, yes.
It’s Sunday.
My moods are getting lighter after lashing out those rants above.
So…
Have a nice weekend, everyone!
Beware of the mental damages that the telly and the Internet can bring you!
well… my defense, is that she….
she….
nevermind, i don’t have a defense…
i like her because she’s pretty and nothing more, not that she has strengthened my belief (so i call it) that if you feed beauty, it will leave nothing for the brain…
believe it or not, in my world, it proves…
wish her luck, buddy…
don’t spray the shame on her face more…

I don’t think the bitches part was a mistake
Nor was the Indonesia-is-a-city bit. The girl can’t speak English, plain and simple. I wonder why she (or whoever told her to) chose to speak a foreign language which she’s not fluent in while she really had the chance to speak in her mother tongue and have an interpreter at her side, like some of the other contestants. At least then she can be more confident and not roll her eyes from time to time as if seeking for approval after she answers one question after another.
This girl was meant to represent our country, both beauty and brains. Why they focused too much on her beauty, I will never understand. I thought we had over 200 million people to choose from and yest we chose one pretty girl who elaborate more on her German bloodline than focus on her Indonesian heritage.
Sorry for the long comment. Couldn’t help it!

ah comment lagi nich….

I share the sentiments above. It’s a beauty pageant after all. All claims stating otherwise, i.e. expanding the concept of beauty to include grey cells and mastery of a foreign language (English), is preposterous. Let’s not fool ourselves nor let Simone de Beauvoir flip in her grave
The Miss Universe pageant is eye-catching and that’s about it.
As far as I can remember, I don’t recall any of the previous title holders ever been invited to deliver a speech banning landmines or speak against genital mutilation before the UN General Assembly. I also think it’s rather silly to believe that a single figure in the fashion/entertainment industry could do wonders, e.g. breakdown stereotypes, for the country she represents. Assuming that tourism promotion is the only significant socio-economic role the Miss Universe title holder carries, nobody in the sanest mind would visit Beirut (nor invest in the region) in the near future despite the presence of Miss Lebanon. All I can remember of Miss Universe 2005 is her face on that Takeda C1000 Vit. C ad vis-a-vis her alleged global charity work
I think this whole onslaught of criticism against Nadine’s (poor) English is nothing but sheer arrogance; perhaps with a touch of envy. To those whose mother tongue is English or is able to speak the language fluently (with a British or an American accent as a plus), consider yourself blessed. Not many Indonesians have the affluence to finance a foreign education, private English tuition or simply the opportunity to pick-up the language.
I’d also like to believe that Nadine has done a fine job in representing the majority of us Indonesians in the international fora; particularly, on the usage of the English language whether we choose to acknowledge it or not. You’d be surprised to find a significant number of our own diplomats who falter still when speaking at international forums. It’s sad, but true.
All in all, Nadine has a pretty face and it’s amusing to see her vie against the rest in this respect. Nevertheless, personally, I’d only be proud if the nation could shed its bad rep on corruption and assert itself geopolitically and economically
